They say that the best camera is the one you have on you! I’m a firm believer of this and by golly I take lots of cell phone pictures, especially of my littles because many times that’s all I can grab at the moment. Most of the time that’s sufficient for what I wanted, but when I can grab the professional camera, I’m reminded just how much better my camera is than my cell phone, especially in tough lighting situations. Take this situation for instance: I attempted to grab a quick photo of my boys in matching PJs in front of the Christmas Tree. Not getting the results I wanted, I begged them to stay put so I could go get my camera. Here’s the comparison of the images:

Now you may be thinking “But my cell takes awesome images!” Yes, I know the newest phones take fantastic images (I hear the iPhone portrait mode is amazing!), but there are a couple reasons I’d say get a pro to take your family’s images.

(1) You want to be in it!

Obviously it’s tough to both use your phone and be in the image itself. I think that’s a given! And your littles are going to want to have images of you and them together! I’m learning that my big little loves to be in images with his mama. And what a privilege! It’s not often that I’m in front of the camera, so I make the most of it when I can!

(2) The quality is better.

As you can see from the image above, the quality of the image is so much better, and this is just with a quick snap while my kids were literally moving! This would have been a blur on my cell camera. I could bore you pointing out all the technical ways the image itself is better like the depth of field, the richness of the color, the sharpness, the ability to edit the image, but to me when I think about printing this, I consider which of these is one I’d like to have on my wall. To me, that answer is clear.

(3) Professional printing lab option.

Oh how I wish I could show each one of you the sample images in my hand. First off, I totally understand printing at a commercial print lab. I get it! You want quick cheap prints for a project, etc. You might be surprised to learn I have both in our home! However, if you have an image that you plan on having for years, its best to get one from a professional photo lab, like the one we use. The prints themselves are thicker, on special archive quality paper, color calibrated, with better cut edges and the finish is superior! If you want a piece of art to display on your walls this is most certainly the way to go and always my recommendation. Plus options like standout wall images (ready to hang on your walls!) and canvases!

Always go for the camera that you have at hand, but also, don’t forget to have someone capture your family’s images too!  Worried about your kids behaving or having a tough day? Don’t worry, I’m a mom too so I obviously get it! I have a “Love Your Photos” Guarantee!  We know kids have tough days sometimes. We’re pros and we can usually still get you some pretty fabulous photos even if your family isn’t 100%. But if you’re not satisfied with your images, we are happy to offer you a free re-shoot.  You won’t regret it!
